Ode to subtlety;
a quality often lacked by modern society in very unsubtle ways.

Today I rode home on my bike, when, somewhere near the river-crossing at the town of Duffel, an oaks leaf floated out of the blue sky in front of me.

I guess it’s autumn now …

They say autumn is disappearing where I live; summer gets longer and winter gets longer. And there is no room left for autumn.
But I guess those people just have to look around them instead of trying to read their seasons on the thermometer.

Rain for me personally has nothing to do with winter, nor does the drabbish muddiness caused by it. I don’t really associate it with autumn either. Rain just happens. and mostly either at the end of august or just before spring … Belgium has a rain-season, … and just like the snake that bit it’s own tail, it never ends …

To me autumn are those dry days, a bit chill, but when you’re dressed nicely you can enjoy the warmth of the low sun on the skin of your face. The sun that shines trough the trees when you can’t see it directly, only its light. The sight of your breath and the damp coming from horses.

“I live in a land where the sun doesn’t shine,
but where the light like golden rain drips from leaf to leaf,
and gathers in pools between the roots of trees.
I jump from pool to pool,
and catch the drips on my tongue.”

For me, autumn is a forest, leafs crisping on the forest-floor, trees showing their beautiful entwined branches, for once not hidden by the green …

I can’t wait ’till it’s winter :p.
